Comparison of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) Profiles and Antimicrobial Activity of Different <em>Cinnamomum</em> Species in Sri Lanka

The demand for Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum syn. C. zeylanicum ) is consistent due to its superior characteristics. Besides that, Sri Lanka home seven other wild species: Cinnamomum capparu-coronde, citriodorum, dubium, litseifolium, ovalifolium, rivulorum, and sinharajaense. Since bark contains more than seventy bioactive compounds, it possesses various pharmacological health benefits, including antimicrobial activity. Even though there some literature on the activity chemical composition of verum, species have not been studied yet. present study evaluated biochemical compounds found in using methanol extract crude. Trans-cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl alcohol, acetate, coumaric acid, coumarin were quantified HPLC techniques. properties by disc diffusion assay against two standard pathogenic strains, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 Pseudomonas aeruginosa 27853. There no detectable or acid levels any species. highest trans-cinnamaldehyde content observed followed sinharajaense capparu-coronde. Further, rivulorum did show positive inhibition zones strains trans-cinnamaldehyde. Moreover, results showed a strong correlation between content. suggest that antibacterial capparu-coronde should be tested broader range could useful future breeding programs.
